FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How can I learn more about the different groups and a cappella in general at the University of Michigan?

At the beginning of the school year, MACC holds AcaRush: a free showcase for all 15 of the University's a cappella groups! After the performance, prospective auditionees can interact with group members and sign up for an audition time slot. Additionally, during Festifall, a university-wide club fair also held at the start of the year, you can meet each group (and MACC!) to learn more about the University's thriving a cappella community.

When do auditions take place?

All groups hold fall auditions, which take place in the week after FestiFall (sometime in early September). Some groups will occasionally hold winter auditions as well (usually in early January). Look at each group's social media to see if and when they will be holding auditions, as well as the components of their audition process. Additionally, feel free to check out MACC's Resources website for audition prep advice!

Can I audition for more than one group?

Absolutely! Most people audition for multiple groups. However, you will ultimately only be able to join one group.

What is the time commitment like?

The time commitment for each group varies. However, groups who compete will have a higher time commitment than non-competitive groups, as they will hold more rehearsals to prepare for upcoming events.

Do all a cappella groups at the University participate in competitions such as the ICCA?

Not all groups at the University compete in events such as the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA). Some compete annually, while others compete every other year or more sporadically. Each group is different.

I got into an a cappella group! How do I officially join?

After the audition and callback processes finish, MACC will send out a mandatory Google Form to fill out so you can officially join an a cappella group.
